Description of the Exhibition:

'Fire and Earth' is the first show for many years to attempt a thoroughgoing examination of ceramic work in the Marches area. Its eighteen exhibitors include both sculptors and potters and range from emerging makers (of whom one has only been working in the medium for five years) to established, internationally renowned artists. In earlier times potters often clustered around areas where either good clays or fuel were prevalent. In the case of modern Marches ceramicists, the force of attraction has been personal connections and the remarkable beauty of the countryside.
Amongst the outstanding objects on show are pieces by Stephen Cox RA which have never before been shown in public and new work by Phil Rogers that he has completed this year. There are strong, individualistic sculptures by Ken Eastman, Jonathan Phillips, Shannon Donovan, Andrew Eastwood, Rob Fountain, Bev Milward, Maggie Kingston, Verity Howard and Garry Jones; examples of sublime domestic ware by Corinna Kenyon-Wade, Tony Hall, Andrew Crouch and Basil Titford; and works by Nancy Frost, Hajeong Lee and Gill Tennant-Eyles which perfectly combine the show’s
twin themes of the potential of clay as a fine art medium and allusion to more traditional forms and
techniques.
'Fire and Earth' was curated by Sheridan Swinson and Shannon Donovan. The majority of pieces in the exhibition are for sale. The exhibition is open from 8th – 23rd April 2017, every day except Easter Sunday, 16th April. Free entry, all are welcome, bookshop and café also available.
