Our Next Events:

Monday 27th August: Aardvark Vide-Grenier/Attic Sale, 9am-3pm

Blue Moon

With live Jazz by Ludlow-based "Blue Moon", who return for this popular Bank Holiday market and live music event. The Blue Moon line-up for Monday will be: Jack Brett - guitar & slide guitar, , and Nick Hurt - keyboards, guitar and harmonica, and a saxophone player - TBA! We'll have a bar, café refreshments and lots of stalls of vintage, bric-a-brac and antiques to browse, including The Cottage Herbery's fantastic plants and gardening advice, as well as the bookshop and special children's craft activities with Annie Thompson from 11am-2pm!

The bookshop and café are open 9am-5pm as usual. Free entry, free parking, all are welcome!

Saturday 1st September, 10am -4pm: J L Carr - A Celebration

A Month in the Country, Film 1987

This unique event, originated and curated by Eileen Baker, will be an entertaining and thought-provoking celebration of J L Carr and his work, and will include a showing of the film  "A Month in the Country", readings and discussion.



Outline Programme:

10am: Introductory Session, with Matthew Engel

11am: Screening: "A Month in the Country"  - Made in 1987, starring Colin Firth, Kenneth Branagh, Natasha Richardson and Patrick Malahide, this is a screening of a new print)

12.40pm: Panel/ Audience discussion

1pm : Lunch

1.30pm: Bob and Jane Carr: the Life and Work

2.30pm Eileen Baker: "....and the rest...." (with readings)

An interview with Colin Firth will be shown at 3pm, when tea and coffee will also be available.

Tickets £10 each, bookable in advance at Aardvark Books, call 01547 530744 or visit! The ticket price includes tea and coffee but not lunch. Lunch is available in the café which is open 10am-5pm. Copies of JL Carr's and Matthew Engel's books will be available to buy in the shop, and there will be a small exhibition of JLCarr books, Pocket Books, maps, correspondence and art.

Friday 7th - Sunday 9th September: Aardvark Festival Bookshop at Ludlow Food Festival

We are delighted to be hosting a programme of talks and discussions this year, during Ludlow Food Festival in the Castle. The Aardvark Festival Bookshop will be in the Castle Gardens, and if you come to the Food Festival, come and find us!

Apart from all the amazing chefs demonstrating at the Festival this year, including Thomasina Myers of Wahaca, Romy Gill MBE, Masterchef Winner Jane Devonshire, the Great British Bake-Off's Howard Middleton, Sandy Docherty and Val Stones, and the best chefs and food producers in our region, The Aardvark Festival Bookshop will be hosting an array of stunning writers, chefs and horticulturalists:

The Aardvark 2018 Events Calendar

We have set some dates for next year's events, so here is a sketch preview of our plans!

Our next children's events will be:

Monday 27th August 2018: 11am-3pm at the Aardvark Vide - Grenier, Annie Thompson will have a craft gazebo for children.

Annie will have returned from WOMAD once again with lots of crafty ideas, and children love her creativity with natural materials and paints. Free activities. come along and have a go!

Annie's crafty activities with children all around the theme of plants and growing things were really popular at our Easter Event this year, and another painted frieze has been added to the Bookburrow walls!

In 2016 the craft activities included creating a pretty Valentine's frieze, and at our Easter Event in April 2014, look what Annie Thompson created with the children - A beautiful Spring Frieze!

Aardvark Books Schools' Events

We often host children's authors and have recently welcomed Katy Moran and Paul Dowswell to talk about their books. We can also provide educational visits to our art and map exhibitions, and visits by arrangement. Children from local schools have also enjoyed visits to the BookBurrow.

Children's Activities at Aardvark Books

The BookBurrow is always open during bookshop hours for browsing, play and reading! Do come and see the castle, pirate ship and princess seat, and enjoy a happy hour or two in a space created for inspiration and imagination.
