Under the Hammer21st February 2014

Good meeting about our next event 'Under the Hammer' yesterday. The exhibition consists of 200 original auction posters, together with accompanying catalogues and marketing materials. The posters run from 1919 to the end of 1945 and give a unique insight into life between the wars.

Whilst we were talking along came a customer who had known John Norton ( the auctioneer ) well and gave us some useful insights into what became of the firm after the dates of the exhibition. Auction posters are the most ephemeral of things, and it is incredibly unusual to come across such a large collection. They are also almost all in mint condition.

Amongst the posters for the sale of various grand houses in Shropshire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire, are posters relating to Christmas markets, produce sales and business closures. All in all it is one of the most interesting exhibitions we have done here.

Also underway are our preparations for this year's H.Art in September. This year we will be running two exhibitions - one of textiles, the other a two person sculpture/painting show. I am also very excited about some of the other shows in our immediate area, and together it will mean that the North of the county is very well represented again.
