Fantastic opening to Shropshire Hills Art Week30th May 2015

After a tremendous amount of work by Andrew, Shannon, this years Shropshire Hills Art Week Exhibition - entitled From Clee to Heaven in honour of Housman - opened with big crowds of people, and a flurry of sales. 15 artists showed their works, and the effect is extremely powerful.

Bank Holiday Brocante Underway!25th May 2015

The first Aardvark Brocante has just opened, with lots of stalls with an even greater range of items for sale. Pleasingly Rob and Kim have arrived with a wonderful display of plants, and there is a super mixture of flea market favourites and well made crafts.

Non-stop Aardvark craziness24th May 2015

Even by our standards we have been working non-stop over the last week or so. Lots of customers, plus a couple of members of staff out for the week, equalled a really strong effort from the rest of the team. Yesterday I was out for a family event, and my sister took on the bookshop reins for the day.

Great Lecture, Last day of the map exhibition17th May 2015

Yesterday we had a fantastic lecture from Dominic Harbour from Hereford Cathedral on the Mappa Mundi and its artistic legacy. The audio-visual equipment worked brilliantly and Dominic is obviously very used to talking in public and has a great enthusiasm and grasp of his subject.

Quiet days are made for Aardvark Books10th May 2015

After a frankly crazy weekend last week, this weekend feels a little more laid back, with fewer customers, but those who have come in spending more time and enjoying the break. It is as if after the events of last week, the nation has felt the need to draw breath. Needless to say a return to late autumnal weather doesn't help. I confess that I always feel a little depressed having to light the woodburner as I did this morning, once we have passed  the May Bank Holiday.

The Art of the Personal3rd May 2015

Last week I had an unsatisfactory conversation with a junior member of staff belonging to Herefordshire Council's 'Service Provider'. They has been employed to remove all signs from the verges, and when I queried why there was money in the budget to prevent people finding us, but no money to mend the road in front of our car park, they informed me that the road had been mended to their employer's highest maintenance standards ( see below).
