Bookplate to front endpaper ?Mina Bowater? Designed by gun engraver Malcolm Appleby. Appleby turned his Silver Trust commission towards a more peaceful end: the pieces are lavishly engraved. From his workshop, in a converted railway station near Aberdeen, he says, ?I like to keep my eye on the outside world.? But he is a far from detached observer; his engravings contain opinions.
