Notes:Two volumes bound in one original 12vo vellum binding; comprising a first edition of Madrigali in Italian by the noted artist Valerio Belli 1599 Venice Ciotti, and a second edition 1599 of Rime del Molto by Battista Guarini; remnant of paper title to spine; contents and binding in good condition; with a bookplate showing the first coat of arms of the noted lawyer and mason Richard Horton Smith, and a previous owner signature and motto in medieval Dutch ( Soecht Godt Altois ) of one Andreas du Bois; both volumes show the 'Aurora' colophon of Ciotti, rather than the more common Minerva colophon; the Madrigali is both commercially and institutionally scarce with only 7 copies showing on Worldcat of which 3 are owned by Harvard University
