February ending, can Spring be far behind28th February 2015

The last day of February sees the Aardvarks in contemplative mood. Last year at this time we were enduring one of our worst months in the bookshop with extensive flooding on all  the surrounding roads. This year things have been much more serene, and partly as a result we have recorded our best ever February in the shop.

One down ...15th February 2015

So the first event of the year is now history, and what an extremely enjoyable event it was. Kate Morgan-Clare standing in for our usual children's craft supremo did a great job in the BookBurrow, the group of Valentine's stalls were all appreciated, Gareth Rees-Roberts playing was wonderful (even if I will never be able to pronounce the name of Atahuelpa Yupanqui). Nor should the effect on the general mood of the complimentary glasses of Prosecco be understated.

New books are the lifeblood of a bookshop, and are particularly vital at this time of year as we are very dependent on our online orders which go up and down largely on the basis of how many new titles we put on.

Science Fiction; change is afoot8th February 2015

I have just finished putting on 50 science fiction titles, and am about to break for a well deserved sandwich. Sci-fi has always been one of our most popular fiction categories, and the difficulty of getting earlier volumes in some of the long series that sci-fi authors go in for, continues to make the shelves some of our most visited.

New Carpet, Change, the Year Ahead3rd February 2015

Today is extremely exciting as we are finally fitting our new carpet in the front room. Over the years we have had a lot of problems with the concrete floor in the entrance room (a lasting legacy from the speed with which we moved into the building), and we have tried a number of ways of curing the problems to no avail.
