Back from an unsettle France, to a summer of madcap Aardvark Activity31st July 2015

Back in the UK after a couple of weeks away in my favourite holiday destination La Belle France. As ever many things were perfect, but one could not help but notice that all is not entirely well in the French Universe. Farmer Protests, endless fires - said to be caused by arson, unemployment still stubbornly high, political scandals, newsagents dumping tons of carrots outside government ministries and everywhere a feeling that things were not quite as they should be.

Make Your Summer Count!19th July 2015

My last blog until August, so I'd better make it count. Brampton Bryan is looking so beautiful this morning it is hard not to think that this is the only place to be. The rain of the last few days has made Harley Hill look all green and luscious, and the sky is blue and clear.

One door closes ...13th July 2015

The Food Fair closed as it opened in bright sunshine, and we had our usual good turnout from stallholders and visitors. Lots of nice comments and lots of full carrier bags. The bookshop was also busy, and such was the brilliant organisation of Carolyn and Sarah that I even had the chance to talk to some customers during the day. Everybody left the site quickly, and the tents and marquee came down yesterday, so that there are no signs that anything happened at all.

Long days, the Food Fair Camaraderie10th July 2015

Food Fair morning! Having spent the night at the bookshop on security detail, Coco my number one protection detaill and I awoke with the larks and set out to patrol the site. I am glad to say that nothing had changed since our 2am patrol in the early hours of the night ( Brampton Bryan at night is truly beautiful, with zero man made light pollution).

History is not Bunk ( it's official)4th July 2015

Alongside all the planning for next saturday's Mortimer Country Food Fair, I have been off buying lots and lots of academic history books, which I am now starting to process. Every subject under the sun, and all at at least half the publisher's original price ( which is to be fair often fairly stratospheric).
