The Aardvark Blog

The Aardvark Blogger is always busy!

Lots going on with events and visitors to the bookshop. Not to mention plans for next year, markets and fairs, author events, live music and much more. Keep looking in to find out about everything that is happening in the bookshop in the middle of nowhere.

Books take centre stage - but art has a last hurrah!26th September 2015

The last week we have been concentrating on our book stocks and trying to improve some of the sections in the shop. Children's fiction has therefore been rearranged ( with some work to do still) so that the Young Adult fiction and children's fiction are now separate. This is a long overdue change  and is one of a number of changes we are planning to the bookburrow before the end of the year.

Back to life, back to reality15th September 2015

After a crazy, but generally very successful weekend, Arthur Aardvark had an exhausted day off yesterday and after an e arly night returned to the shop this morning with renewed purpose. H.Art, Ludlow Food Fair, Craaaaazy!12th September 2015

Spent yesterday at Ludlow for the first day of the Food Festival. Great fun being on the stand with John Challis and his wife Carol who were signing copies of their books. If James Brown claimed the mantel of the hardest working man in showbusiness, John must come a close second as he is about to embark on a nationwide tour with a new one-man show. John is on our stand at Ludlow all day, so do come and see him if you are at the fair.

Also yesterday we were doing book signings with Harold Middleton of Bakeoff fame, who has a new book out on gluten-free baking. What a charming man and extremely funny. The book is a great present for any-one you know who has given up flour in their diet. Today we have Luis Troyano and Lee Watson whose 'Peace  and Parsnips' is a fantastic vegan cookbook.

In Wigmore at 3pm there is a chance to hear bestselling author Phil Rickman talking about his latest book ( special release pre-publication copies available at the talk from the Aardvark Bookstall), and back at the bookshop at 11am this morning we are launching our 2015 H.Art exhibition, a fantastic group show of textiles, painting, calligraphy, lettering and sculpture.

I think it would be fair to say that we are in for a busy weekend.

Next week things will be a bit more back  to normal, although I am expecting the H.Art exhibtion to bring in lots of people as ours is one of the biggest shows this year. I am really hoping that there will also be time to start to process some of the fantastic books that I have been buying recently. Sales have been excellent recently and some gaps are appearing on the shelves ( always anathema to me), and we have the books to fill them. Just got in some great architecture/interiors books, a huge pile of recent paperback fiction and much more besides.

Art, Art and a little food too!6th September 2015

Back from a really enjoyable break on the North Norfolk Coast ( Burnham Overy Sleathe - a small village that Nelson wanted to retire to, before events at Trafalgar intervened), to a maelstrom of art and activity. Friday was a very busy day with conversations with three artists over their submissions for our H.Art show that starts next Saturday.
