New Year's Eve 201631st December 2016

So here we are in a for once quiet bookshop on New Year's Eve morning, with a large pile of online orders to pack and a long list of year end procedures left with stern instructions by Ethel Aardvark. The bookshop is amazingly ending the year in the best position we have so far achieved, and that  inevitably makes me think of all the people who have helped us to get where we are now.

I am by nature a cheerful person, and recently all the sack cloth and ashes about the dreadfulness of 2016 has made me start to think that perhaps the prospects for 2017 are not as bad as we all fear. After all - as an excellent 'thought for the day' said this morning - there have been far worse times and places to live.

CHRISTMAS FAIR 201611th December 2016

CHRISTMAS FAIR 2016 opens in half an hour. All stallholders here and have set up. Looks really superb, with lots of first time exhibitors. Come and try Sarah Rogers new chocolates, or  get some plants ordered for Christmas from the Cottage Herbery. There are prints and pictures from Jane Keay, and the most wonderful French antiques and Kitchenalia!

Xmas Fair on Sunday, Greg Lake, Abstract Expressionism at the Royal Academy9th December 2016

Final preparations for Xmas Fair are well underway. A super soup recipe has been selected, thanks to a titanic effort the warehouse has been cleared, and all the stallholders alerted. This year we have had to turn away a lot of people who wanted stalls over  the  last fortnight. I cannot emphasise enough that  for the Christmas Fair early booking is important as we have limited space.
