The Frankfurt Books Est Arrive
Last week when the first storm of the year was just hitting, an interested observer would have seen Ethel and I attempting to push a motorised pallet truck up our very steep and somewhat pitted driveway. A pallet truck which on was loosely balenced, one of the pallets filled with books from our trip to Frankfurt.
Fortunately the wind and rain acted as a strong incentive, and with the help of the driver we were able to get the pallets into the wooden barn where they now reside.
Needless to say I couldn't resist opening a box or two after we had got rid of the wet pallet wrap. Fortuitiously the boxes beneath were dry as a bone, a testimony to AMC's ( the logistics company) brilliant wrapping.
To the right is a pile of what came out of that first ( and very heavy box). Needless to say there are many more gems to come.
And don't forget you will be able to see these books and more in our brilliant pop-up evening sale on the 4th of December 2026 in the historic library of Rodd Court. Entry and parking are free, and Charlie from the Rodd will be on hand to serve delicious seasonal drinks.
If you love books this is a truly brilliant opportunity, as with the gloom and doom currently around who knows what will happen in the future. Now is the time to buy the best ever book produced on Kaffe Fassett's textiles or a wonderfully illustrated book on Urban Potters - to mention just two titles I see in this pile.
Circumstances meant that this year truly was an outstanding fair for Aardvark - surely things will have been sorted out next year - and I never remember having such an opportunity to roam the exhibition halls so productively.
In other news before the 4th of December there is another brilliant free event happening at The Rodd which I would urge you to attend if you can Works from the collection with special guests October 29, 2026: 18:00 PM - 19:00 PM. A one-off event with Virginia Rigney and Paula Dredge two very experienced curators from the Canberra Museum and the Art Gallery of NSW respectively.
The Aardvarks will be returning from another secret buying trip to Oxford ( more news on this in a future blog ), but will be hoping to slip in at the back before the end.
Until we meet again! Pip Pippo. Arthur Aardvark
