A quiet weekend, but some great sales!
Last weekend was generally quiet in the bookshop - although oddly Sunday was frantic in the café (it being lovely weather for cyclists). And yet this didn't stop us making two really good antiquarian sales. The beautiful copy of Henry Wigstead's 'Remarks on a Tour to the North and South of Wales', was particularly lovely with a stunning 1/2 calf binding on marbled boards. The other book was an 18th Century study of the Follies in Stowe - a charming book with numerous fold out plates and maps. Whilst rare and antiquarian books are a small part of our business, I always enjoy buying them, and for however long they remain in the shop, they cast a certain glow from readers of a previous age.
Meanwhile most days we sell a few more items from this year's H.Art, although my thoughts are now turning to next year's events and the five exhibitions that we will have. More information will go up on the website in November when we finalise our programme.
Finally we are less than three weeks away from the Frankfurt Book Fair and our annual trip to the centre of world publishing. I have already got details of some of the great books that we will be bringing back, but I always look forward to talking to publishers at the fair and seeing what new titles they have produced.
