And at last it is Christmas Eve
And at last it is Christmas Eve
And at last we have got through to Christmas Eve, after what has been a very busy shopping season at Aardvark Books. All the customer orders have now arrived and been picked up - the only exception being a book I ordered for my sister's present, which still hasn't arrived after 2 weeks ( you know who you are Paperbackshop).
As if to compensate us for the loss of our dear friend and co-founder Edward, the universe has seen that Aardvark has had a very good year in 2014 with all parts of the business outperforming the last few years. I have bought some of the most interesting titles - James Bond books, items from William Beckford's library, rare and sumptious maps - and had some of our largest ever sales. In all we are heading into the New Year in very good heart, with our first event being our now annual Aardvark sale at the end of January.
2015 is a re-enactment year and planning has begun in earnest for August's event. This morning I had an email from Victoria Barton who will be bringing her letterpress and printing seditious pamphlets throughout the weekend. Then there will be the cavalry - a first for a re-enactment here - not to mention the usual cannon, muskets and pikes. All in all it will be a fantastic event, so if you are planning to stay in the area whilst you are attending do book your accommodation early ( the weekend of the 15th and 16th of August ). There are a number of brilliant B & B's and small hotels in the area including Lower Buckton, Upper Buckton and the Milebrook Hotel this year's Welsh Hotel of the Year in the Good Hotel Guide.
Alongside the events ( including the 8th Mortimer Country Food Fair ), there will also be our most ambitious programme of exhibitions including group exhibitions for H.Art and Shropshire Hills Art Week, and our annual map exhibition, this year entitled 'The Past is Ourselves'.
But before we get ahead of ourselves Aardvark is open until 5pm as usual, so do not dispair the perfect present is but a short trip to wonderland away!
Happy Christmas to all
