The changing faces of winter
The changing faces of winter
Over the last three days we have been treated to three completely different facets of winter, and it makes me realise how little I understand the rhythms of the seasons during the many years I lived in cities. On Saturday we had continuous rain, and by the evening when we went out for a superb meal at the Jolly Frog at Leintwardine - as good as it has ever been - the roads were covered in standing water. On Sunday morning it was all change and beautiful sunshine bathed Harley Hill and the land around the bookshop. Cyclists and walkers came into the café and the atmosphere at times resembled a late Spring day. Today fog has descended, and as I look out of the window here the hills of Deerfold are shrouded in deep mist.
Running a bookshop in a rural location is an eccentric and possibly foolish thing to do, but there can be few more beautiful places on earth to earn a living.
