Hot days in Brampton Bryan
Hot days in Brampton Bryan
After a mild and sometimes wet winter and a slow start to Spring, we are now a week into a real blast of pre-summer heat here in the central marches.
I have been spending a lot of time in the warehouse working on a big house clearance that we undertook at the beginning of the week, and have got back home needing an immediate shower as the warehouse has been unbearably hot. These books represent a lifetimes interest in British history in all its many highways and byways, and I am looking forward to seeing our history buffs expression when they hit the shelves over the next few weeks.
Sooner than that we have our Flea Market on Monday and the phone has been going fairly non-stop with people calling up to book pitches. For good or ill it looks like the hottest of the weather will have passed by then, but the Met office are predicting a dry sunny-ish day, so it should be perfect weather for browsing for the bargain purchase that will transform your life.
Elsewhere things that are coming up include the online Sidney Nolan Lecture being given by Dr Kate McMillan online on the 19th of June at 7.30pm, plus the start of the Hay Festival from the 22nd of May to the 1st of June. Highlights include Robert Macfarlane and Joanne Harris amongst many others ( I would also quite like to hear Anthony Scaramucci's take on American politics).
And if this good weather has made you think of garden visits, then do look out for the many Herefordshire, Shropshire and Radnorshire gardens that are open as part of the National Garden Scheme. I am particularly looking forward to finally having a look round Kentchurch Court , but there are many gardens nearer to Aardvark including Bury Court Farm in Wigmore that are always worth seeing. The ever amazing Cottage Herbery will not be with us this Monday due to family commitments, but will be back with another whole range of plants for our second car boot on the 25th of May.
