Books take centre stage - but art has a last hurrah!
The last week we have been concentrating on our book stocks and trying to improve some of the sections in the shop. Children's fiction has therefore been rearranged ( with some work to do still) so that the Young Adult fiction and children's fiction are now separate. This is a long overdue change and is one of a number of changes we are planning to the bookburrow before the end of the year.
Meanwhile upstairs we are in the midst of a major reorganisation of the biography section that should make it easier for visitors to the shop to find what they are looking for. This will take a few weeks to complete, so apologies for any inconvenience in the meantime.
In addition to reorganising books I have also been working through listing some of the thousands of books I have bought over the summer which haven't yet made it onto the system. With calls about new books coming in daily, this is a very long overdue step.
Our H.Art exhibition ends this weekend and we have had well over a thousand visitors to it over the two weeks it has been up. Pleasingly we have made some sales over the last few days, which have justified the decision to run it for the extra week after the rest of H.Art had finished. I am getting the usual mixed reports on how well this year's H.Art has gone, but certainly some artists have had their best year ever so there is clearly life in the idea for some years yet. It is hard to overemphasise what an important event it is for the county to show the depth of creative talent that we can muster.
On the subject of Herefordshire if you haven't watched the first part of 'Midwinter of the Spirit' Phil Rickman's scary whodunnit set in the borders I would recommend doing so. We also have copies of the book here, together with copies of some of his more recent titles.
Today we have a book stall at the Eye Bread Fair in the Cawley Hall, so do go along to support this very worthwhile event. Mortimer Country Food Fair founder Carolyn Chesshire will be demonstrating her baking technique and there is lots to see and more importantly eat!
Finally next weekend is the wonderful Arcadia Music Festival directed by Tom Bowes and Eleanor Alberga. We have a poetry reading by Pele Cox as part of this year's event so we hope to see you at 3pm on Saturday the 3rd of October. Tickets are £4 on the door
