Huge library purchase; last copies anywhere of Jo Brand Memoir
Yesterday we went over to Leamington Spa and purchased the library of a recently deceased academic , who lectured in the areas of politics and philosophy. The library is vast - somewhere around 4,000 books and contains many gems in the areas of art and poetry, as well as in his chosen fields of philosophy, politics and social sciences.
The books have already started to appear on the website, with the rest appearing on line over the next couple of weeks. Buying libraries is one of the more enjoyable aspects to working at Aardvark, as it gives the opportunity to appreciate different lives and interests. Sometimes one wonders how any-one can have such divergent tastes, and then I look at our own shelves and realise that a degree of literary schizophrenia is by no means a bad thing.
I am very glad to say that after some tribulations with Headline publishers of Jo Brand's superb memoir 'Look Back in Hunger' , we have managed to secure the last copies in print for Saturday's Food Fair. The Times described it on publication as 'moving and very funny', and I think that that sums up much of her humour. If you have not read it and would like to, why not come on Saturday and ask Jo to sign it for you ?
