I was devastated to come across an insightful obituary notice at the weekend for the great American writer Alison Lurie whose death last December had somehow passed me by.
In fact, we have just had a few secondhand Alison Lurie novels come onto our own shelves at the moment: Alison Lurie novels in stock
If you want to order new paperbacks, I have put together what I think is a great list of her best novels on our book listings on Bookshop.org - Top Alison Lurie novels !
I was not able to include 'The Truth About Lorin Jones' which seems unaccountably to be out of print - however, we do have a secondhand copy! Take a look here: The Truth About Lorin Jones by Alison Lurie
I first read that when it first came out which would have been at the end of the 80's or possibly the beginning of the 90's. It was a recommendation in the library near where I lived at the time. It had a big impact on me and if you want a flavour of what it is like I would say that the other novel it most reminds me of is 'My Cousin Rachel' by Daphne du Maurier.
In any event why not celebrate the life of a superb writer - and her writing for children and on children's books were also outstanding and worth looking up.
