Arcadia continues, Brocante next Sunday, yet more books
Yesterday we had our Arcadia at Aardvark event and many thanks to the panel and the audience who came ou to hear them. In the evening we had the privilege to be in the audience in Kingsland for the second Arcadia concert which contained pieces by Walton, Schoenberg, Ravel and Elgar. I found the Elgar somewhat unbalanced ( a very compelling first movement, and two less interesting movements to follow), but I absolutely loved the Walton Piano Quartet which was the first piece in the programme.
Another wonderful concert awaits this afternoon in the stunning Downton Church, and I would advise you to come if you can.
Meanwhile we have had a few more bookings for the Brocante next Sunday ( there are still a few more spaces if you would like to book), and it should be a really fabulous day. Let's hope that the weather is as nice as it is this morning. Also confirmed is that the Brian Lammas trio will be playing our Winter Event on Saturday 19th of November. We will have a flash sale that day and some special treats for our customers, so don't miss out.
I have been working through some of the books that I have bought in the last week, and there are some interesting art books, theology/biblical studies, and fiction going onto the shelvs at the moment. I was given a very interesting collection of H E Bates novels ( many first editions) and also acquired a very interesting early 20th century book - intended for children - on the 'Manners and Customs of the World'. Superbly illustrated my copy would appear to be the only copy currently for sale which has all of its plates.
We have received a good number of applications for the new post we have created, but there are still a few more days to apply if you would like to. Details of the job are on the website under 'Jobs'. We will be making decisions on who to interview next week and will let applicants know accordingly.
