Success is a letter in the New Yorker in New York City
Forgive me for mangling a breathless quote from Andy Warhol, but I was very excited to learn from a friend this morning that the New Yorker had printed my letter on the cancellation/postponement of the Philip Guston show.
Guston is a painter I have always admired, and I am afraid that whilst I genuinely love the writing of the New Yorker's art critic Peter Schjeldahl, I thought on this occasion he was wrong to champion the cause of the four institutions who had postponed the show for four years (until apparently racism in America is no longer an issue).
