Christmas in the bookshop
Christmas in the bookshop
Christmas in a bookshop is always somewhat magical. This year as usual Catherine is putting together some tables of perfect Christmas goodies and gifts costing from a few pounds to a few hundred.
Aardvark always bucks the trend, and therefore even though we have copies of Jamie Oliver and Mary Berry in stock, it is always the quirky and more unusual gifts that our customers seem to look for. And Christmas cards. I cannot believe the number of packs of Christmas cards we have managed to sell this year. Almost uncanny. Perhaps this is the year that people have decided to reach out and connect to each other.
The last few weeks have followed the same pattern in the bookshop - quiet at the beginning of the week and then busy from Thursday-Sunday. Not sure why this is, but it has worked out well for us.
Getting really excited about this year's Christmas Fair. We have decided to push the boat out and have therefore got Dutch Lewis to come and play from his Christmas SongBook, together with Dane Kranenbourg and a mystery guitarist. Plus more stalls than ever (we have been fully booked for a month) and a chance to sample Sarah's incredible homemade roast chestnut and parsnip soup (with the secret ingredient!).
Don't forget we only close four days a year, and will be open until 5pm on Christmas Eve. We're also holding a Late Night Shopping evening on Thursday 18th December, which will be something of a shop party with mulled wine, mince pies and Christmas cheer to banish the dark. Come and have a chat and enjoy the festive pre-Christmas spirit in the bookshop with us! On that evening we'll giftwrap your presents too, if Ethel can get her paws round the wrapping paper and string...
