History Weekend (Day 2)
History Weekend (Day 2)
A very successful day yesterday and many thanks to Terry Wardle for giving such an interesting talk on 'England's First Castle'. Today we have two talks by Adrian Durkin on Medieval and Renaissance arms and armour, and Martin Hackett will be on hand to talk about all the local battle sites (and others beyond).
Whilst it seems a ridiculously long time away I now have the date for the 2017 Aardvark Books/English Civil War Society re-enactment. The ECWS will be mustering in Brampton Bryan for the weekend of the 12th and 13th of August 2017. In the past some of the local accommodation providers have offered a special deal for that weekend, so let us know if you are wishing to come and would like to arrange accommodation in advance.
There is still time to book a stall for next Monday's Vide Grenier. Stalls cost £9 for the space and another £3 for a table if you do not have your own. As well as the stalls we also have a return visit from The Vintage Jazz Revival, a superb 6 piece who played with such elan at our Food and Farming Day last month. And an Aardvark Bar and hot food barbecue!
Finally many congratulations to Remi Harris who has played at Aardvark many times (most recently at the Jazz Brunch we hosted a few years ago), and who is now a BBC2 Introducing featured artist and co-starred at the Jamie Cullum Jazz Prom last week. Remi is an immensely talented guitarist and deserves his success. Let us hope that there is much more to come.
