Aardvark May Car Boot Now Fully Booked, Open Bank Holiday Monday
After a surge of bookings over the week we are now fully booked for next Sunday's car boot sale. From now on any bookings would have to be for the reserve list and we will let you know on the Friday if any-one has dropped out.
We are really excited to be running our first event of the year ( I can't believe that we are only doing so at the end of May but this has been such a strange year). I am also delighted to say that Jack Brett will be returning with his group to play outside during the middle of the day 11.30am-1.30pm and this is also a treat that should not be missed. Last week I placed my first advertisement of the year for the event in the Hereford Times. Sadly a lot of the people I used to deal with at the paper have been let go due to the advertising reductions in the pandemic, but I am delighted that our brilliant local paper is still publishing each week and 24/7 online. So whatever you have planned for the bank holiday weekend make sure that the Aardvark Car Boot is part of your plans. Oh and did I mention that Rachel will be coming back for the day to help out!
This week I have been absolutely stuck with my nose in two books that arrived - from independent book retailers - last weekend. The first is an old book from the 1950's by Aline Saarinen called the 'Proud Possessors'. It is about the great American art collectors from the middle of the 19th Century to the middle of the 20th century. What a joy to encounter again such extraordinary creatures as Peggy Guggenheim, Mrs Potter Palmer and Katherine Sophie Dreier the founder of the Société Anonyme. The other book I have been glued to is the latest work by Michael Lewis 'The Premonition'. The latter is available at Bookshop.org . So much to talk about in how each country approached Covid 19. So many different failures and so many lessons to learn. But how many heroes also. Lewis's book is full of them, and I have met quite a few as customers in the shop.
Finally just to confirm the shop will again be open on the Bank Holiday Monday and we look forward to any-one who is looking for a bookish bank holiday.
