First purchase for next year's map exhibition
Such was the success of this year's map exhibition that I have been determined to start early the process of putting together the list of maps to be shown. I have already had some preliminary discussions with collectors, and yesterday I bought what I hope will be next year's centre piece.
Another great large map of Shropshire ( approx. 1.2M x 1M ) this is another map from the early part of the Shropshire industrial revolution. The colours are superb, the map is in excellent condition, and it comes in a fantastic leather carrying case shaped as a book. Altogether one of the finest maps we have had in the shop and it will go against my effusive nature to keep it under wraps for nearly a whole year!
At this time of year I try to go easy on buying books, because there are so many things going on that it is difficult to process them, but having said that I have ended up booking two big house calls over the next fortnight. With another large parcel of books coming up in August there should be no shortage of wonderful stock over the summer.
This week we bought two collections of theology books, which Catherine has processed and put on the shelves. Our theology section is always strong, but it is particularly good at the moment having made a number of sizable buys this year. All the books are available for sale through the website.
Finally our exhibition of artists books and prints is still on for another week. It is a consistently good display with a superb range of styles, and well worth a visit if you are coming in this direction.
