With May drawing to a close I have finally got a chance to get back to the blog . Our map exhibition saw record numbers of visitors and sales, and the larger area we were covering brought people from the top of Shropshire to the bottom of Powys. The Western Mail devoted an entire page to the exhibition, and we were contacted by the British Library.
After the success of the map exhibition we then had a very successful Brocante on Bank Holiday Monday, and since then we have been busy with visitors all week - helped by it being half-term across the country. On a sadder note last Friday was our memorial service for Edward, the co-founder of Aardvark and a good friend for over 28 years. The church was packed, and afterwards most of the congregation came back to the bookshop for refreshments and even the odd glass of wine. It was the kind of event that Edward would have enjoyed.
Finally on the subject of epitaphs, a customer yesterday alerted me to the fantastic piece to camera by David Abbott ( formerly of Abbott, Mead, Vickers the Ad agency ) on the subject of independent bookshops. If any-one can be said to have been on the side of the angels it was the late Mr Abbott. Do watch it on Youtube, and raise a glass to Edward and Mr Abbott.
