Death of Roger Emmerson, English Civil War Society
Just heard from Chris King the sad news that Roger Emmerson - stalwart of the English Civil War Society and gunner extraordinaire - passed away at the weekend.
Roger was a very special man as anyone who came across him during the many re-enactments that he and Chris ran for us at the bookshop can testify. His dedication, practicality, intellect and deep seriousness tempered with a great sense of humour will be much missed. Apparently just before he died he was talking to Chris about next year's event, and I very much hope that this can go ahead - in part as a memorial for Roger.
A lot of good people have passed recently - either as a result of the pandemic or on occasion as part of the collateral damage - and I feel very strongly that those of us who are still here need to make sure that we remember and celebrate them.
