Summer sun, Wi-fi in Café, working through Frankfurt books, next year's programme
A cold night last night has produced a magnificent Saturday morning, with bright sunshine and no wind. Not what I was expecting from last night's weather forcast. And if you are looking for somewhere to drive to today, there is no prettier place than Brampton Bryan, home of one of Britain's rarest churches, beautiful walks and if I say so myself a pretty damn fine bookshop/Café. If I add that Swifts have just delivered fresh bread, and dawn has brought in freshly baked cakes, how could you resist?
The first café customers have now taken advantage of our free super fast wi-fi connection and I hope that this will become a regular occurrence for regulars and new customers alike. Just ask for the password when placing your order.
I have now put on books from Lawrence King, Victoria and Albert and the Natural History Museum, but there are many superb books left to process from our mammoth Frankfurt buy. I am also trying to work through the big pile of Folio Society books that I bought the next week. Some unusual titles that I haven't had before, which is fairly amazing given the number of FS titles that I have sold over the last decade. At the moment each day is like Christmas as new wonders hit the shelves and our valiant staff try to find places to put them.
Dates in your diary. Don't forget the Winter Event on the 19th of November with special flash sale, and the last Aardvark event of the year the Christmas Market on Sunday 11th December. We are now booked up with stalls for the CM, but we will take reserve names as inevitably there are always a couple of people who drop out at the last minute. For the Winter Event the Brian Lamas trio are confirmed, whilst for the Christmas fair we have a return to Aardvark for the Dutch Lewis Trio featuring Dane Cranenburg ( There are so many versions of Dane's name out there that I have stopped worrying about the exact spelling).
Finally we are starting work this month on next year's programme. Some elements are now in place including the return of the English Civil War Society on the 12th and 13th of August, but many more are still to be fixed. If you would like to exhibit at Aardvark now is the time to let us know!
